FIRST DAYS AT LIBERTY:

“I always wanted to work with Kids”. Ashlee initiated her journey with Liberty Employment Services enrolled in the Community Integration Program. She became a volunteer as a teacher and cafeteria assistant at Centinela Elementary School. Ashlee met with her job coach, Antonio to design her employment plan. She lived independently and studied Child Development at El Camino College. Ashlee aspired to work with children and was the perfect candidate for the Supported Employment Program. Shortly after volunteering at Centinela Elementary School, she was given the opportunity to volunteer at a day care. 

THE JOB SEARCH:

The job developer arranged a partnership with Golden City Day Care, the childcare center became interested in partnering with Liberty Employment Services in order to assist adults with disabilities to find jobs. Ashlee began by volunteering at Golden City Child Care as a teacher’s assistant. She continued with her education while working, she was goal oriented and wanted to obtain all the required certifications to continue working with children. Ashlee was offered an employment opportunity after one year of volunteering at Golden City Child Care. She became part of a team that supported her dreams and transitioned to the Supported Employment Program.

GOLDEN CITY CHILD CARE:

“I like working with kids and I want to gain more knowledge from working with them.” Ashlee is a role model for employees at the childcare center by always arriving early and follows the rules and regulations. Her effort to strive as an employee gave her the opportunity to have her own class two times per week for 2 months, her job coach, Rhonda assisted her with the lesson plans. Ashlee has gained experience by working with children ages 3months to 5 years old. She has applied her education skills to her work and the children have connected with her immensely. The staff, parents, and children show their appreciation to Ashlee daily as she continues to grow as a care giver and employee. Ashlee has maintained her employment for over two years and continues to achieve the goals she has set for herself. 

LOOKING TOWARD THE FUTURE:

“I need two more certificates to get my permit and become a teacher’s assistant for a special needs school.” Ashlee is passionate to continue working with children, her future goal is to assist special needs students in a classroom setting. She continues to attend school to complete her certifications while working and gaining relevant work experience. Ashlee’s commitment and dedication will continue to provide her with successful opportunities.
